Please note there is only on-street parking at this venue. Arabic Beginners (1/2 TERMS) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: This course is designed for students who have no knowledge of the language. GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE To provide students with an introduction to Arabic script, language and culture. To equip students with essential vocabulary. Modern standard Arabic will be used as a basis, with elements of everyday conversation and regional variations taken into account. LEARNING OBJECTIVES To equip the students with an introductory understanding of Arabic script and language To make students aware of essential Arabic culture To enable students to read and write some Arabic script and to conduct very basic conversations LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of the course students will:- 1. Have a basic knowledge of Arabic script and sound 2. Greet people in different situations, introduce themselves and their families 3. Conduct simple conversations in different situations such as asking directions, shopping, order food etc. 4. Understand and be able to write some basic script GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE Tutor input, written and oral exercises, classroom practice and games will be used throughout the course. DVD's and tapes will be used where available to show authentic scenarios and aspects of life and culture to aid learning. NOTE In order to make progress in any language students need to utilise additional opportunities for study at home. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS Students should bring notebook and pen/pencil. Students are advised that Tutor will give advice at first session of class on any text books required for the class. This can cost in the region of £30.
