Class Description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements. Some previous drawing/painting experience would be useful but not necessary.
GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: To introduce students to a variety of methods of abstract painting. To encourage individual experimentation and creativity. To help develop students' visual awareness and observation skills. To broaden students' appreciation of art. To introduce students to a range of painting techniques. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the course students will: 1. Have explored methods of extracting images from source material for development into abstract paintings. 2. Have learned a range of experimental approaches to using paint and other materials. 3. Have been introduced to a variety of artists working with abstraction and produced work in response. 4. Gained a better understanding of the processes and planning involved in creating an abstract painting. 5.Gained more confidence in the use of colour, form and composition. 6.Have had the opportunity to develop their critical skills.
GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Classes will begin with an introduction to an artist or group of artists (using visual aids) followed by a brief group discussion. Demonstrations on new techniques will be given followed by individual tuition. Possible visits to exhibitions/galleries.
MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT: Students will be required to provide their own materials however they should wait until the class commences to get information from the tutor about what will be required for each week.
