Class Description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirement. This class is ideally suited to beginners and those with basic card making knowledge.
GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: Students will experiment with a variety of card making tools and techniques to design and create their own handmade cards. Students will produce a range of finished cards demonstrating traditional and alternative methods, using shop bought and home sourced materials to produce cards for a range of occasions. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the course students will have learned 1. Various card making techniques such as rubber stamping, dry and heat embossing, creating background papers, using punches and embellishments and cutting apertures and card bases. 2. To become more confident about designing cards and understanding the imporance of composition and layout within their designs.
GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Students will be given a handout covering the course content as well as information on where to purchase tools and materials. The course will consist demonstrations based on popular techniques as well as creating cards for particular occasions (for instance Christmas). The tutor will providesamples of finished cards, magazines for reference and materials to help inspire students. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace.
MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Students should bring scissors, glue and any paper/card or decorative items they wish to use, however this is not essential as all basic equipment and materials will be provided. Students can bring their own materials or tools for advice on how to use them. A cost of approx. £2 per student per week could be required to cover the cost of materials provided. However this will be discussed during the class and be not be required every week.
