Class Description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements. All levels of students welcome and students will work at their own pace.
GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: To teach students how to decipher patterns, laying and cutting out, fitting and making up of garments. How to do basic alterations to ready made garments and how to use a sewing machine.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course students will have knowledge or understanding of: l. The best garments to make according to skill level 2. The use of straight stitch and overlock sewing machines 3. How to chose equipment and suitable fabrics 4. How to use basic cutting and sewing processes whilst constructing a garment.
GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Individuals and collective tuition. Absolute beginners will start with a "Driving Test" to instruct them in the safe use of the straight stitch sewing machine. Time will be spent on first night of class to discuss choice of fabrics and other materials required by students MATERIALS PROVIDED BY STUDENTS: Students are expected to provide their own fabrics and other materials/equipment. (We would suggest that unless students already have equipment/materials that they wait until the first session of class before purchasing expensive materials /equipment/text books etc).
