| Class Description |
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:Students should have attended a beginners and a post-beginners course or have an equivalent level of German; students should be able to communicate with others about basic personal information (family, home, local area, work, hobbies, daily routine, holidays) including events in the past. GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: To build on previously acquired knowledge and increase students' competence and confidence in using German for an expanding range of purposes. LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course students will will be able to: 1. Talk about likes, dislikes and preferences by comparing different types of sports, holidays etc. 2. Express plans, intentions and hopes for the future. 3. Communicate with greater complexity, for example by giving reasons and stating purpose. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE (Methods etc) Most of class time will be devoted to increase the confidence and range with which students can express themselves in speaking. Reading and writing will be used mainly to feed vocabulary and structures into students' communication skills. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT: At this level, a dictionary would be useful to have, even if it is not necessary to bring it to the class every week.
