Class Description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: The class is suitable for those new to yoga or those with some experience
GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: To master or revise the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga. To develop/ improve the basic postures and breathing techniques with a view to strengthening, improving cardio-vascular efficiency, gaining flexibility and aligning the body. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the course students will have - Improved physical fitness including suppleness, strength, stamina and balance A good knowledge of all the basic yoga poses Enhanced concentration, awareness and a general sense of wellbeing Basic understanding of yoga philosophy GENERAL APPROACH TO THE CLASS: Hatha Yoga can be practiced by all ages, sizes and levels of fitness. We will work within each student's own limits to keep the body safe. Each class will consist of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and relaxation. Modifications and therapeutic benefits will be given for the postures students are learning. Once the class have studied the basic core postures we will look at sequencing, linking the postures together and working dynamically. Students will be able to take home a plan of each class to practise at home if they wish. We will also look at an introduction to Yoga philosophy.
MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Loose, comfortable clothing should be worn. Students are required to purchase their own yoga mat and to provide a blanket to cover themselves during relaxation. Other equipment such as belts, blocks and bricks may be required and information on these will be given by tutor in the class. Recommended Supplier for all yoga requirements is "The Yoga Shop", 25a Rodney Street,Edinburgh, Tel.: 558 3593 who will offer a discount of 10% on production of class receipt. HOWEVER students may wish to wait until the class commences to get information/advice from tutor before purchasing costly materials and also to confirm viability of class.
